HTML0Aiming for opportunities and changing the direction of your professional career.
Prior to my move to London in 2017 I lived located in a small town in Germany and worked in the area of After Effects animator. There weren't many chances to be creative. My abilities slowed quickly and I was frustrated.
The move into London and getting to know everyone who is a great animator within the city was a huge boost. I thought "Damn I'm now one of the cool kids - better start working on my equipment."
In the wake of my experience at this year's Pictoplasma event, I made the decision to join the world of fascinating character creators. The decision was made very fast that I'm creating characters that work most effectively when they're in 3D and I'm still learning the basics from scratch. It's a challenge but very satisfying!
My work caught the eye from Greenhouse Animation, which is now my director by them.
concerning the X-Files project as well as the mystery of socks disappearing
One of my first projects for clients that I created with my own style that I discovered was the Covered by Lemonade clip.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to create a work for its regular Instagram artists' collaboration. The company acts as an insurance company for content, the idea of cute household objects being in danger was in my mind. This is how the X-Files idea was born.
In the winter of last year, I was on lockdown watching all the x-files, so involving a traditional alien abduction seemed logical. However, each character had to stay in the same spot in the end, so that the animation loop could be shut down to ensure none be actually abducted. That's when I had an idea to have the washing machine explode and the one pink sock flies towards the UFO.
When I was creating the UFO while giving the UFO some legs I was able to see how everything could become a reality. The UFO has lost its socks and is trying to find it!
For me, making a memorable story best involves combining different things that seem unconnected at first. To make an event that is unexpected and also give unanimate objects personality through sticking funny faces onto their surfaces is the ideal way to make it fun for me!
The process of animation
My process always begins with sketching the characters and the creation of a storyboard. I transformed the storyboard into an animated film for Lemonade to communicate the idea along with the moment. Then, I jump to Cinema 4D and model all my characters. It is also where I test materials and create style frames.
Once the animation that I have created with Cinema 4D is done, I transfer it into After Effects for compositing and final touches. The light beam that is pink, for instance, is created through After Effects.

HTML0 Concerning the sounds effects and the work with Phill Brookes
It was my first collaboration I collaborated with sound engineer, Philip Brookes who really took it to the highest level! The work he did elevates the entire video up to an entirely new level and connects everything perfectly! This was a fantastic task to accomplish and I'm hoping to make many more like this one!
We've talked to Phil about the process of creating sounds for The X-Files project. Listen to the entire interview with Phil Brookes.
Right now I'm working on finding out methods to rig a character as well as how to create amazing textures with Cinema 4D and Redshift. I am experimenting with the combination of 2D animation with 3D I am eager to discover the direction that my character design adventure will take me in the future!
Tips for artists about ways to change your career path
A few tips that I'd like to provide for anyone who is considering switching directions:
- Select the approach that best suits your requirements best, and then invest in learning that! Motion design can seem like you're required to be aware of all it is. It's actually not the case.
- Take pride in your eccentricity and do not minimize the weirdness. Your uniqueness is distinctive. Your voice, your style and creativity are unique.
- Be patient and accept your ideas. Whatever is happening in your mind, Accept it and come up with your own!
