When Pooja Bavishi decided to launch her ice cream business, Malai, she did so with a clear, personal vision. "I launched Malai as I was looking to honor the tastes that I grew up eating as a young Indian American in a popular and mainstream fashion," she says.

"Everyone is a victim of an ice cream memory from their childhood, which is usually associated with visiting your local ice cream shop to share a treat with your loved ones," Pooja says. This nostalgia-infused fusion has taken Malai from a stand at local food halls and markets to grocery store freezers and pop-up carts all over New York City, and a bustling flagship shop located in Brooklyn providing both local and national delivery.
