What can be done to improve the learning experience for students online using drip content

Jun 7, 2022

Content drips keep students interested all the way through the completion of the course. Learn how, why, and when to drip the content of your course .

Give it to them all at once, and leave them on their own, hoping that perhaps they'll be able to get through all the content even though it's unlikely . . .

Make sure you create an engaging, immersive course that leads your students through the course with a specific speed, so that they can take in every lesson and benefit from the material you spent all that time perfecting.

The second alternative is known as drip content. It helps you hook your students right from the moment they enroll, taking students on the same journey you imagined when you first wrote your thoughts on writing (or your fingers on the keyboard) and envisioned your course at the beginning.

When you drip content to students, they'll be more likely to stay with your course until the end -- and it will be clear that you're making an impact. They'll tell their friends about the course and the students themselves will be able to experience the same experience (and enjoy the experience).

Keep reading to learn how to drip content from online courses and also the reasons you should drip your course's online content to create those awesome experiences your students love.

How do you setup your drip course in

If a student buys the on-line course, the student will be able to look at the title of all of the content in the "Upcoming" section. Students can also monitor the course's delivery schedule via the timer over each section.

Here's what that looks as in Mackenzie Childs' Design for Developers course :

This is an excellent method for students to focus on one specific course section at a given time while still building excitement and planning for what's to follow.

Step 1: Create the product you want to sell.

Click "Create product," after which you can select "Online class". Give your course a name and select "Create the product".

Step 2: Add sections to your course

Simply click "Add section" to include a section new to your class. It will be the initial module of the course or lesson.

The new section should be given a name, like "Week 1: [topic of Week 1". Next, you should add the description. Let your students know what the module's content will focus on and what outcomes they can expect.

It is likely that you want the information in this section to be available to your students immediately, so you don't need to turn the drip schedule off for a while. Click "Save".

Step 3: Set your content drip schedule

Then, you can create your second section through clicking "Add contents," then "Add section".

When you've named the second section, you can click "Drip setting" to set up the drip contents for your course.

Click "Turn on Drips for the section".

Choose when you want customers to get access to this section (based on the number of days after the purchase). If you're unsure of what to do with your class One lesson per week is the ideal schedule starting off with.

(Quick note In the event that you're editing an existing course, adjustments to drip settings only impact the future clients.)

Step 4: Write your drip emails

Once a new section has been unlocked your clients will be notified via email with a links to the new section.

The content you put in the email you send to each of the sections is entirely your choice. Give your students a quick outline of the recently unlocked content, and get your students excited for the next section of the course.

Make sure you write your drip email and then select "Save".

Repeat this procedure for each portion of your class.

5. Add information to each section

After you've made the sections, make sure you add any the content you want to include using the button "Add content" and then choosing the kind of content that you wish to include.

We suggest including a variety of types of content including workbooks, videos and tutorials, as well as quizzes and many more.

In the event that live instruction is a component of your program, having a set start date ensures that your participants are on the same page when it's time for a live training session.

Step 7: Cost your course

Next, click over to the "Pricing" tab.

If you're still not set your payments, go to "Accept Online Payments" and link your Stripe or PayPal account through following the steps in this article .

Step 9: Publish

If you're confident that the course is ready and ready to go, simply click "Draft," then select "Published".

And voila: The drip course you signed up for is now live!

Why should you drip your online course content?

Drip-feeding course content keeps your students engaged and motivated, which drives higher completion rate for your classes.

Instead of having to deal with a plethora of information all at once the students are able to work through the course at a set, manageable time every week's lesson building on the previous week's module.

Brand strategy coach Rachel Shillcock uses the drip-feeding of course content to keep students interested, rather than overwhelmed:

"Dripping courses" are so beneficial in setting the pace for your course, and also keeping participants engaged every time you introduce new material.
It keeps the pace up, and keeps everyone on a level pace and focused on that particular part in the program . . . In terms of the content of your course, especially if it's a huge course with tons of courses, it could seem overwhelming to new students who have no idea what to do.
The content is delivered in batches ensures they keep on track without becoming overwhelmed."

For some students, drip content also takes away the temptation to procrastinate. "I have taken one of Ramit Sethi's courses and loved the drips every day for the first week and a half," developer Chris Oliver said to us. .

"The drip made me schedule my schedule around the course and I even went through it, versus thinking I'd do it have time later when I had the enough time.' This makes you feel like you're actually in a course , and you have to show up."

Additionally, Chris knows a thing of online learning-- he's the founder of GoRails , where he gives over 80 hours of Ruby on Rails instructional content for a group of more than 39k developers.

Instructors such as Chris are aware that when they keep your students' interest throughout the course, you create an enjoyable learning experience. That means you can have a bigger effect on students in turn, they'll be more likely to recommend your course.

This is a win-win, particularly when you consider the fact that suggestions from friends and family are the top method to help American customers discover new products.

"People who finish your course are extremely excited about the experience," Reuven told us. "They love what they accomplished, and most likely will return to you for further courses."

It makes it simple for creatives such as Reuven to develop the most engaging learning experiences through drip content.

Don't just take my word for it. Check it out yourself.
