Meet Jennet Liaw

Designer at Nike, Jennet currently runs her own company as an artist who is independent. Jennet has collaborated with organizations like Adidas, Puma, REI, Harper Collins, Netflix, Airbnb, and Apple. In our conversation Jennet discusses reconnecting with her Taiwanese heritage, her ethnicity as an Asian-American from the early generation , and the way that calligraphy inspired her to develop an unending passion for icons.

Which word have you picked? What do you think is the meaning of the people we work with and explain to us the meaning behind it for you?

I chose to utilize my own word"yuan" (Yuan ) that is quite ethereal for describing how it could be employed in conversations. Instead of saying somebody was "in your life due to certain circumstances," in Mandarin you might say "you are both"yuan." We'd like to learn more about the artwork that you've made. What inspired you to convey your message the manner you have chosen?

The most fundamental Chinese words are filled with the depth of words, since not only are they composed of compound words (a accidental example is the term used"circus" is in fact an abbreviation for "circus" that is actually an abbreviation of "horse-show-group") But every character is comprised of meaningful symbolism, that interact with each other. What influence have your origins been on the way you dress and your creative thinking?

Although I was raised trilingual, that's not an excuse for my inability to read or write Chinese. However, I know that my Taiwanese parents taught me calligraphy in the early years of my life. The significance of these letters continue to influence my fascination in icons , and overall, having a background in calligraphy has allowed me remain committed to the idea that deeper meaning could be inherent in every object.

What are the ways we can as a species be able to acknowledge the contribution to art of API makers and artists during this month?

I'm thinking that a lot of API artists working in the States aren't getting the benefit of making use of their history to advance their craft.  The 'assimilation' of the past was an essential part of the lives of most students in the early years on their way to the very top of the ladder.
