Are there ways to let AI unleash its creative power? Views from film makers and vice-president of Creative

Sep 17, 2023

There's no debating it, AI isn't going anywhere.

There is an ongoing conversation about whether or not AI will replace editors, writers, and concept artists, a lot of people accept the reality of AI and are now pondering whether it could change how work is being done. While at Cannes I was able to hear the perspectives of creatives such as will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas fame discuss the different ways that AI will alter the ways lives are lived in the next 10 years. A majority of conversations revolve around how AI is rapidly unlocking the power of individuals and how they impact creativity.

After serving as an artistic director for a total of twenty or more years, I decided to talk about my experiences and see this as an opportunity engage in conversation with my community.

What's the state of affairs What's the situation, and how do we go to get there?

Here's what AI is capable of doing at the moment.

"I used to be a magician prior to when I started my film career. Pretty quickly, when you're an expert in the field, you will realize that technology of the highest quality can be distinguished from the art of. The art of magic can also be scary even if you're not certain of the way it works or what it takes to perform. The same way that I'm feeling concerning AI as an entrepreneur who is successful in placing something in your mind onto the screen, or onto the display, AI is a scary issue since it could take over your." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short directories, found and the CEO of Breakwater Studios

Creativity is an essential human quality, one which AI can't reproduce it easily.

Midjourney went live in July 2022. ChatGPT was officially launched on November 1st of the same year. Since then we've seen self-described "non-creatives" discover creative ideas that have been left untapped because of a lack of expertise.

The outcomes of some projects have been astounding, and the tools are evolving with such speed, that you'll think you'd forgotten that the tools are just one year older.

AI can help you communicate your ideas

Concepts that are complex for movies, stories, pictures as well as music have been restricted by the techniques and the skills required for bringing the concepts into reality.

But, as of the present year, pictures like this can be made with only few keys

Midjourney 5.2 is a brand new technology in AI images.

48 hours in, and the people have already pushed boundaries.

If you're a known creator, like Oscar-winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili, the possibility will be much higher.

Take a look at his computer-generated movie " Last Stand," which depicts how humans would react if aliens were to make contact.

"Last Stand | Sci-Fi Short Film made using Artificial Intelligence."

From @HashemGhaili

"Disclaimed The claim isn't true. the film is actually authentic. It's just a movie, made through Al who was in charge of making the script, writing it, developing concepts, and then making the voice actors and

"AI requires us to examine the world in a way we never thought to think about," says Crystal Edmonds who is the head of Accounts as well as the Head of Events Activation of Magnet Media Films. "I think that AI will allow us increase our understanding. AI will help us understand something we've never realized that we had to know about. There's a good chance that you'll see the people discover a new aspect of their imagination using AI."

Take a look at, for instance, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short film "Thank You for Not Answering."

Instead of seeking authenticity, he intentionally adopts a dream-like look which is typical of Runway's Gen-2. "As someone who leaves an email for someone that is from his previous existence, he's overwhelmed with fragments from his faded memory and is imagining what which could have been."

True artist. He's adapted to the strengths and limits of his medium to make an original piece.

AI can assist you in validating and market ideas

It is clear that while the above excellent examples show how AI could be used to convey an artistic vision, AI for commercial use is, at the moment, something that is merely a marketing gimmick.

Take a look at this artificially-generated beer commercial. This is a product from this moment and therefore isn't suitable to be considered an authentic commercial when it was seen as an actual commercial.

The presentation does give more than adequate information to communicate an idea to executives far more effectively than a sketch of a mood board or elevator pitch has ever.

Thanks to generative AI, it's not necessary to rely on words alone to paint an image for more than 10 individuals: Instead, you can use a descriptive prompt to generate an ideal sizzle film animatics, or even previsualizations that will convince people to believe in a concept.

What does this mean to creative professionals today?

Start to understand how you can develop a compelling prompt for AI.

"I think that this generation will be able to learn the technologies that are in our hands and will begin making use of generative AI writing and visually," says Orlando Baeza chief marketing officer and Chief Revenue Officer at Flock Freight. "I am convinced that there will be an abundance of jobs to be created in this field, but this will require iterative in the process of improving the skills of the current workforce before the next generation coming in and advancing this technology."

AI is a great way to save the time needed for production

The current video-making process takes about about two or three weeks from beginning to end However, AI accelerates this process up, freeing filmmakers to be more creative and gives production staff additional time to complete tasks that demands a focus.

"I think among the main challenges in the field of film is the cost to make a film. This is a very high-cost way to make a film- one important aspect about is that it democratizes filmmaking," continues Baeza. "So when AI or machine learning are tools that will allow someone just with a couple of resources to reach large audience which is a good thing, then it's something to appreciate, isn't it?"

AI has made video more efficient to make by automating tasks like transcription and editing, as well as personalization as well as process of scheduling. In particular removing and adding objects from videos' backgrounds is a tedious, time-intensive process and it is now as simple as the use of the Generative Fill device.

"I believe organizations will perceive AI as productivity and efficiency enhancements," says Baeza. "I believe AI can be a great partner and could be part of the innovative businesses."

This is the area that AI cannot assist you in.

AI won't help the person becomes famous.

Machine learning works by processing data that is already in use and then following the patterns that it's previously consumed. As an example an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that is generative AI software can create an amazing image of a blue cup which is based on thousands of processed images of blue cups.

But, it's not about repeating the same thing that's been done beforethe key is to look at things with fresh eyes, putting a new perspective over the established ideas, or making a connection which nobody else has created. The words of Steve Jobs famously said:

"Some individuals say to give customers what they want However, that's not my approach. Our job is to be aware of what customers are likely to need before they make a. I think Henry Ford once said, "If I had asked my customers what they were searching for I would have gotten a faster horse.' They don't realize what they'd want until you've shown it to them. Our job is to convey the ideas that aren't yet in the document." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple

The process of creativity is a result of art and science and AI is a winner in the scientific side of this equation.

There are some patterns that can be replicated and formulaic, which we use in our business and which AI can replicate, like the rule of threes or using a striking red font for promoting sales. Yet, AI isn't able to be forward-looking: it can't recognize virality, or provide an innovative, fresh viewpoint that customers will enjoy.

Creatives are fortunate to have their own good news. Make up your own concepts and then use AI to help you bring your ideas to life.

AI can't reproduce the creative process.

One of the great things about the creative process is that no matter how precise your idea is it develops an identity that's its own when it's developed. Every person that comes into contact with your concept brings their unique perspective and experience towards it. That means the final result will have the appeal you would imagine.

The film editor I collaborated with said "You could have shot your storyboard, but your storyboard has no value today and I'm planning to make use of the footage I have." Even if all was recorded as you had planned in the storyboard, that film editor may highlight specifics or change items in a manner different from your initial idea.

Presently, I'm not able to see an avenue for AI to replicate the process of creative thinking by this method.

It doesn't have a unique perspective that it could bring into the process as the video editor. So, even in instances where AI is utilized in the creative process --for instance, helping speed up ideas or edits human beings are integral to the creative process itself.

Keep your mind wide open

In the end, AI will accelerate our capacity to share thoughts and also act as trigger the next generation of creative artists to come into the world and do feats we would've thought of never before. If I could describe the present moment in words, I'd say that it's anxious excitement as it's the first time we've witnessed it for a lengthy time, we're gazing at the future.

Really though, I'm just one person with a singular opinion and set of ideas. We should continue exploring the possibilities using a sense of curiosity be open to new ideas, keep a mind that is flexible and continue to keep the discussion in motion.

As of now I'm curious to know where you are. Which are the ways you're using AI in the present and what do you believe it will take us?
