Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan on embracing her true, sensitive self through art:

My work is very emotional. I create portraits of myself of the feelings I am feeling. My entire life, I have been a sensitive individual. When I was young I've had a feeling that made me feel uncomfortable , and I would try to get it out of my system. (...) As you grow, you realise that actually it's alright and everyone feels different. I decided to make use of all the emotional energy I carry into my daily life and start painting. I draw on it to stimulate my creativity and to spark the imagination of others. It's amazing that the thing I had been trying to push down for all of my life, all of a sudden, I put on a paper, and it felt like such a feeling of relief. There is finally a place where I can utilize this feeling, and I can utilize these feelings, pains, and joys to put them down on paper. This was a truly amazing experience and took me to a place where I felt grateful. It started resonating with a many others. It was a time of opening myself up and putting things onto paper that I had have never considered before. As opposed to trying to look like other artists who already "made it", I really tuned to what I want to express and what I want to express as an individual. I embraced something that I was not happy with about myself , and then realized this was my true power. I am really happy being my authentic, sensitive self.
