The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber-artist and illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I moved here to go to Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and that's where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we began the Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've built up my small art business close Call Studio which I run all day long.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

My art style, whether it's sewing, drawing or drawing is not self-conscious, intended to entertain and inspire those who see it. My style can be moody or direct and some of my pieces can seem a bit introspective, yet there's always some humor and a sense of play.

What is the key to making your art?

It changes from season to season but currently holding an attitude that is "no stress" at the drawing table is fundamental for me in the present. I've always put a great quantity of stress on myself that didn't show effectively in my professional or personal living. Therefore, allowing space for rest and gardening are just as imperative for me like sitting down and drawing.
