Control more tightly over Community notifications both for you and your members

Jul 7, 2022

We've updated the settings of community notification to provide a better user experience (and lower email message). Here's what's new.

How can you inform members of what's going at your place?

You'd like to let users know about new conversations and engage them in more discussions. But you should give your members the ability to regulate their experience, and prevent notification overload. As we interact with our creators, how crucial is it is it to strike this delicate balance.

In the most recent version of the community feature, there is a new update which allows you to and your friends have more control over the messages. This means more active conversations, no more crowded inboxes and a social platform that brings both of you together.

Control your own notification preferences as a creator member

Creators and community members are now able to choose the notifications they'd like to get on every subject that includes new posts, responses to your suggestions and/or replies to feedback.

If you are logged into an online community and are a member Log into Settings and then select "Edit" under Notifications. (Creators can find this in the Notifications section of their account settings.)

This will highlight all topics you're interested in following within the community. You can simply mark or uncheck boxes in order to pick the kinds of messages you'd prefer to receive on the specific area.

You might, for example, like to receive notifications about updates, comments or responses to a subject that's time sensitive such as live Events or announcements. Other topics, such as Announcements, you may want to be only notified when someone makes a new post or you opt out from announcements on that topic completely.

You are also able to toggle the notifications on or off through clicking "Mute All" or "Unmute All".

In addition, you can alter your notifications per topic effortlessly by accessing the "All topics"page or on an particular topic's page. Press the bell icon to select your preferred notification settings.

Set default notifications for a topic

Creators can also create default notification settings to each subject in your community, giving you more control over your members' experience.

Instead of sending notifications to your members for every post in every topic, you can choose which topics your members get informed about, as well as the types of notification they receive.

Here's how:

On the Community tab on your dashboard, select "All Topics". Then, choose the "..." the next topic you'd like to modify and click "Edit Topic". You can then pick your notification settings from "Default notifications settings".

Users can change the setting of notification at any point in their user accounts. If users haven't modified their preferences, they'll default to settings that were created by the author of every topic.
