Amigurumi Jellyfish Designs

Similar to how you use a pattern for making a sweater or hat, you will require a pattern in order for learning how to crochet for a jellyfish. They provide instruction for rows-by-row and you'll be confident that your final product will turn out exactly like the photos.

Yarn

Choose two shades of worsted-weight yarn. Worsted weight falls between the weight scale for yarns that ranges from zero (fine) to seven (jumbo). The word "worsted" on your skein of yarn; if you do not, then look for an arbitrary number of 3 or 4.

Yarn Needle

It is necessary to have a yarn needle to stitch the tentacles on the body of the jellyfish. Needles for yarn are big and blunt and have an eye that is large enough to fit yarn rather than sewing thread.

Stuffing

In order for the jellyfish to hold its shape, you'll have to fill it with stuffing. You can purchase fiberfill stuffing at a craft shop in your area or use materials you already have--like cotton balls or scraps of fabric. For the most effective result, consider using style of fiber that is a cluster, and keeps its shape even after machine washing.

Eyes for Safety

An optional but fun addition to the creature you have Safety eyes can add the life back to the face of your jellyfish. They'll run you just a couple of dollars online or in any craft shop.

How to crochet the Jellyfish

Step 1: Begin to Work the Body

In the following row, increase each stitch. That is, you'll add two single crochets per stitch until you get to the final row. This technique are able to increase the size of the fabric which will allow you to achieve the shape of the jellyfish's body. Continue to follow your pattern until you are ready to change the colors.

Step 2: Change Colors

Step 3: Add Details

After the body of your jellyfish is complete, add the eyes. Attach safety eyes to the top of the pieceand space them about 10 stitches apart. Secure the eyes with safety washers that are placed on the outside of the fabric.

Step 4: Complete and fill the Jellyfish Body

At this point you will see your pattern begin to signify a succession of drops until you find a tiny hole in the base of the jellyfish. Use small amounts of fiberfill, and then stuff them inside the jellyfish, forming and forming the body as you go. Stuffing it somewhat firmly will allow it to withstand numerous washes. However, don't overfill it to the point that your eyes appear to expand.

Once the jellyfish is stuffed properly, proceed with the decreasing rows and close the bottom. Next, tie the ends of the yarn into the body.

Step 5: Attach Tentacles

Then, you can create a variety of tentacles--some long and straight some dense and wavy while others are in the form of a spiral. Create as many as you'd likein the style you'd like. The straight tentacles are fairly straightforward, but to create spirals, crochet in the form of a sequence of stitch (e.g. 5 half-double crochets) followed by one stitch.

When your tentacles are complete put them on the body of the jellyfish using your yarn needle.
