Through the span of about two decades Dana Miranda worked as a personal finance journalist. She observed an increase in the trend. "Most of the financial material available on the web, most of the information and advice originates from one point of view and is typically masculine, white, and heteronormative. being raised in a middle class household."
"I come from a middle class people," Dana shares. "I'm a queer woman. It was evident to me there was a lack of depiction and awareness of the various perspectives people have on the subject of money."
Instead of telling a new tale that everyone else has been told, Dana decided to change the story.
Presently, Dana Miranda is a personal finance coach and co-founder and founder of Healthy Rich , an online platform offering an affordable and budget-friendly financial education. The following is the way Dana built her online business and ensured that her efforts were seen by the widest range of users possible. She even went taking a different route than typical.
The fact that a method of monetization is not a guarantee that it's right to your particular business.
Healthy Rich began as a hobby for a close friend. Dana ran while working as an editor for a firm who was working as a freelance.
"I am the creator of Healthy Rich, which will allow me to share my own financial experiences. It was a simple website with no revenue coming in. I was not sure what it was going to earn money, but I was certain that at the end of the day I'd like to make it into a business."
"I have decided to not earn income through affiliates or advertising," Dana explains. "That's quite common in financial planning, however I was unhappy with the content I saw on the sites I designed for. In order to ensure that the website provided value to the consumer, I wanted eliminate ads from the equation."
Dana loved designing the curriculum. She also enjoyed talking to students, getting responses and answering the questions. However, there was something that didn't make her feel comfortable selling to her customers.
"I am uninformed about this whole event. I resented the whole selling process of convincing people they're dealing with a issue and I could help. None was a good fit to me." Dana remembers.
Restricting access to products just to particular users was not a good idea which could create a huge problem. Though this was the Healthy Rich's strategy for making money but she also would like her followers to be able access information for no cost. Her goal was to raise cash, but did not wish to see the cash put into the pockets of those she hoped to assist.
If the market you are targeting does not feel right. You can try changing the target market.
In order to gain a more comprehensive view, Dana had conversations with teachers and leaders of the community. As a result of the discussions, she realized that there was a huge demand to develop the personal finance program and she might be the perfect person to create the course.
"The market for personal financial education is increasing," Dana explains.
"There are a few states with obligations to complete the personal finance class prior to graduation from high school but the majority of states aren't funded and do not have particular education requirement for people who want to become a personal finance teacher. The educators who enter the sector are usually instructed that they must teach a financial course, but they may not feel confident enough to teach the subject."
Similar challenges were also faced by employees of non-profit organisations and others who provide aid to vulnerable groups.
"People employed by a non-profit organisation may help people in other areas of their lives but it is always connected to money. There are many questions being asked about their finances that they aren't sure they have the answers to. I'm trying to assist individuals to gain an understanding of this subject so they are able to respond to questions in a confident manner."
Dana discovered that she would make her product less appealing to customers, and she instead wanted to serve teachers and trainers by providing more in terms of audience. Dana's message will reach more people, her company could generate revenue, and she would feel great with her contribution.
"I like to give the materials to people who need it at absolutely no cost when I can. aiding local groups and educational institutions is one way that I can make the courses available to students who require it as they can are enrolled in these programs and classes are completely free of charge," she shares.
"This opened up a new market for my company as I can assist teachers and facilitators. I have the ability to collaborate with both sides without having to offer classes for each user."
When Dana began to create her new educational program which was an instant hit and she was able to plan what to do.
"My initial course launch was an excellent test. I'm pleased that I understood the concepts I was taught and am also pleased that I could learn quickly, and then proceed to the next chapter."
" lets me be able to create the things I'd like to create. I'm completely in love with it this manner."

"It's helped me to know the areas I'd like be working with. It's educational institutions and non-profit organizations. I'm from Wisconsin which is the reason I'm establishing myself locally, working and working with local organisations that are part of the local community. I'm able contact any individual resident of the community to tell them that I'm worried about the good work you're doing in my community. There are many ways we can cooperate.'"
Innovation in the market she'd want to tap into and the items they'll require, Dana transformed Healthy Rich to become more than a simple online source of financial advice for people. Now, there's a chance to change the way we talk within our communities regarding money.
"The manner in which we talk about money could be difficult, so I'd like to modify how we discuss the subject of money. I'm planning to provide teachers with the necessary resources in order to ensure that students learn with an inclusive and sophisticated approach, not just traditional spending or repaying debt that I was witnessing."
When she changed her target audience from individual people towards educators and employees of non-profit organizations, Dana stayed true to her principles and created the most efficient method of communicate her insights to individuals who require it most.
