The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist as well as an illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I moved here to go to Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in which Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we launched the Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've worked hard to build my small art business Call Studio Close Call Studio where I work all day long.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

My art style, whether it's sewing, drawing or drawing is not self-conscious, and meant to delight and inspire others. I can be moody and clear and my art can appear dark but there's always some humor and playfulness involved.

What's the secret in creating your artwork?

The process varies from season to season but currently holding the mindset that is "no pressure" in the studio is a must for me right now. I've put on a lot deal of pressure on myself which didn't reflect effectively in my professional or personal the rest of my life. Creating space for rest and gardening are just as imperative to my process when I sit down to draw.
