Here's What You Need From the Conference App of 2024. (+ 8 Choices) |

Aug 30, 2024

The year before, many people from the Mighty Team went to Craft and Commerce ConvertKit's annual conference held in Boise, Idaho. The highlight was the experience we had using an app that was used for the conference!

The demand for apps at events is growing, with over 72% of conference organizers saying the app was crucial in the successful run of a recently held conference. And G2's research found that 65percent of event organizers are planning to make use of a conference app for things like check-ins, AI and QR codes as well as virtual reality experience.

In this piece, we'll pull from both our research and experience to talk about what constitutes a top app for conferences. We'll cover:

  • What is the best conference application.
  • How to choose an app for mobile conferences.
  • 10 of the top conference app options.

What exactly is a conference application?

A conference app delivers an experience that simulates a live or hybrid event. First versions of conference apps were basically mobile conference schedules. As the technology has evolved, conference apps have developed to offer more functions to serve members-things like ticketing, member management, and more dynamic scheduling.

A modern conference app extends beyond a simple schedule. We can use tech to improve the quality of conferences. More enjoyable. More successful.

A conference app can be a software program that

  • Helps attendees find and make life-changing friends.
  • allows attendees to develop new content, and then add it to the events.
  • Manages payment, registrations, and tickets.
  • Delivers the conference on the own app with your logo.

What we learned by attending a conference using our app

Boise, Idaho was baking under the summer heat. As the conference underway, we could feel the enthusiasm. It was a great conference with amazing presenters such as Ali Abdaal and Cody Sanchez in addition to a presentation about establishing a million-dollar community with our own CEO, Gina Bianchini.

Some of the magic came from a great line-up of speakers, an amazing venue, and most importantly-300plus amazing artists who gathered together to make it happen. It's true. This is exactly what each conference should have.

But behind the scenes it was more going on:

  • The conference app chat had been exploding in "strategic selfies" (speaker John Meese suggested we take them")
  • The attendees were organising, posting, and organizing their own gatherings to discuss things such as white-water rafting, running or the sunrise canyon hike (for those who could manage the early morning wake awake).
  • Creators were sharing what they had been working on and seeking help. The mobile conference application was bursting over with replies!
  • Walking around town, you'd see people who have just met at one of the many great Boise eateries (and sure enough, it probably had potatoes, in some form or another).

And the app has made it possible!

The conference app wasn't just for scheduling and ticketing. It was an exciting virtual conference that took place in conjunction with the actual one. It was clear that the app was loaded with conference information that were extremely useful!

However, it was those who attended that made the conference application come alive with stories, pictures asking for help as well as suggestions on everything from business ideas to gluten-free eateries within Boise.

Here's what made it work to such a degree. This is what you need to look for in a conference app.

What to look for in a conference app

  • A conference schedule (obviously), but also RSVPs and engagement with sessions within the application.
  • Excellent communication tools for messaging and the emailing of participants , and answering support questions or issues.
  • Instruments to connect participants with one another: for example, high-quality profiles, social networks, chat & messages. The true magic of the conference apps is when attendees are able to meet each other-virtual connections that spill out into actual life.
  • Features for unleashing attendee creativity. Participants can develop content, post images, write short or long-form texts, upload videos, and pose questions. Once the participants engage through the app-without being involved, it will increase the value of your conference. The momentum will keep up until the next event.
  • Registration, payments as well as Registration. If your application supports the backend of your event, be sure that you have the ability to take payments, track member lists, and connect members after.
  • Simple building hosting, hosting, and maintaining --it should not take your entire team long to build an application for conferences off the ground and in good shape.

The things we loved that worked about the application

Natalie Paramenter

In our thinking about the factors that made our mobile conference app successful Here's our favorite part of the app:

  • The attendees organically shared the notes they took during sessions via the dedicated discussion feeds.
  • Live icebreakers, which resulted in participants on the app meeting people offline (ie. "Find people who are the same height as you and snap a photo of them ).
  • Local Boiseans (is this right?) hosting meet-ups in conjunction with some of their best local grub spots and outings. (The singing contest was an absolute hit. )
  • A chat in the background before, during, and after the conference that will never stop giving. As an example, Natalie Parmenter (the creator of Primary Focus), gave this shoutout in the video above, when fellow attendees helped to make her launch a success!
  • ConvertKit opened studio and recording areas for users to stop by and create videos. (If you're ever visiting Boise and want to make a reservation, you can set your time to stop by and utilize them for no cost! )
