Honouring the past, empowering progress: International Women's Day 2024

Every year, on March 8 the entire world gathers for a celebration known as International Women's Day (IWD). It is an opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of women and reflect on their challenges and recommit ourselves to the world in which women are equally treated. Looking at our past and acknowledging that it didn't happen with one click. It was the culmination of hard work, strength and perseverance. We are proud of the day and we encourage everyone to take a a brief journey through the rich history and culture of IWD as a testimony to that collective effort.

Start with planting Seeds of Change to a Global Movement

The seed of IWD were planted during the first half of 20th century. This was the time when women's rights were taken off. On the 8th of March, 1857, women took to the streets in protest against the conditions at work which did not meet the standards and inadequate rights women had in their trade of clothing. The strike demanded cutting of work hours as well as a the payment of a decent living wage. The 8th March was the protest was led by women who worked in the needle trade organized to fight child labor as well as the conditions in sweatshops, and demanded the right of women to exercise their right to vote. Two years later, following the march, March 8th was the first day being celebrated each year as International Women's Day.

While IWD is an important day, the goal to achieve justice and equality for all women shouldn't be confined to one single day.
