Japan is the latest nation to pass law that targets companies like Apple Inc. along with Google LLC in limiting third-party firms that are seeking to sell and promote their own applications to Google as well as Apple devices.

As per Kyodo News, "The law prohibits the creators of iOS as well as Android platforms of Apple's iOS as well as the Google's Android phones operating system, stores for apps and also payment processors from having to limit the sale of apps and products that directly compete against the services and apps of the platform that was originally created." The law also stops apps "gatekeeping" in addition to making it more competitive applications, in addition to those on different platforms.

The current Japan antimonopoly laws have penalties of six percent for profit earned through anticompetitive practice. The penalties for this law are more specific. It is 20 percent of profits generated by products that do not comply with the laws. This will be increased by 30percent if the unlawful activities continue to be carried out.

The law is expected to become effective in 2025. Kyodo News points out is very similar to previous EU laws (presumably this is the European Union's Digital Markets Act).

Kyodo News also reports that both Apple as well as Google have released statements regarding their ongoing collaboration in partnership with Japanese regulators.

The story that ran in Kyodo News regarding the regulation which was approved first by Japan's Cabinet stated that the Cabinet's decision was a vote to approve the law, which is "a way to end the duopoly between industry bigwigs Apple Inc. and Google LLC." Google LLC is also known as Google LLC," and said that the latest law is an indication of the Japanese government's desire to collaborate together with the EU by enacting further regulations "of Big Tech firms such like Apple, Google and Amazon.com Inc. that are gaining immense influence across the internet. the world."
