We're incredibly proud of our twenty years' experience of providing a platform that allows entrepreneurs of every size and potential from all over the globe to get noticed and achieve. Marcy Lab School Marcy Lab School is an independent school that is non-profit and not for profit that is located in Brooklyn, New York, with the aim of providing students with the highest quality postsecondary and tertiary training for children who might not be in a position to obtain satisfying and lucrative careers in the field of technology.

That's why we made the donation of $100,000 to the Marcy Lab School as a part of our pledge until 2020 to support groups in the elimination of racial differences.

We spoke to the Marcy Lab School's Executive Director, Reuben Ogbonna II, about how the school has been capable to provide Fellows with the chance of enhancing their abilities so that they can work in any technology subject without having a degree.

: Marcy Lab is a relatively new organization, so the reason you decided to start the non-profit?

Reuben Ogbonna II: After spending 14 years serving students of color--along with my co-founder Maya Bhattacharjee-Marcantonio--in the charter and public school systems, we repeatedly watched as our former students with limitless potential slipped through the cracks of higher education. One of the aspects that's not widely known about the universities of America is the fact that each year, thousands of eager and hardworking students are admitted to the university that they've always dreamed of attending but aren't financially capable or stay until. We were stunned by the low rate of success in "college promises" that left college students of our country and their families with life-altering financial burdens and other seemingly insurmountable challenges.

In the year 2019, we joined together to create and operate Marcy Lab out of the conviction that all children who identify as black, and most youngsters who identify as black, deserve have the opportunity of achieving more justice and equality to the choices and opportunities previously for those at a 4-year university. Marcy Lab School Marcy Lab School offers a alternative to postsecondary schooling which is being reinvented in line with our initial aim of creating a lifelong choice and economic freedom to those who are interested in careers in the ever-changing technology industry.

SQSP can be defined as a means of returning to school for children. Why is it important for you to find out that Marcy Lab offers this path to a new career?

ROThe difficulties I saw my students experience firsthand were among the biggest problems faced by students of minority populations. It was clear that postsecondary institutions of our nation were not up to the expectations of colleges is which the vast majority of students want with regards to community, assistance, as well as their academic quality and ability to land not only a job but a career. It's the deliberate blend of all these aspects which form the foundation of Marcy Lab and are some essential elements that allow students the possibility to pursue a career path which isn't a conventional one.

To keep a promise given to the future make sure that our Fellows can perform on the job after the 12 months of our course, well-prepared and able to work as members of teams able to move fast and help your business from the start. They learn technical skills after completing an industry-specific, thorough course that is flexible and adaptable to changing requirements of the tech industry. In addition to gaining a tech-savvy knowledge set, Our Fellows also engage with taking part in their Leadership & Development curriculum, which is focused on gender and race in the context of personal development and financial literacy. This curriculum contains books written by renowned authors such as James Baldwin, Michelle Alexander, Safiya Umoja Noble, and Dr. Beverly Tatum.

We're extremely pleased to announce the fact that Marcy Lab School graduates are looking for jobs and getting their dreams jobs at the wages previously only available to four-year colleges with a greater level of competition. There are two consequences: Apart from our students and their families getting the opportunity to work in positions that provide security, financial security and financially secure, it demonstrates that employers have drastically modified their ways of hiring in order to draw and retain people who don't fit into the conventional categories.

SQSP: What can you tell us your experiences with us about the impact that you've witnessed on the part of Marcy Lab School have on those who are students at the school?

ROEven after five years of working in this endeavor and watching the results, we've forgotten the thrill it would bring to witness our current talents work in positions that pay an average annual income of $188,000 from those between 19, 20, and working for some of the largest and most successful companies around the globe, without the need to pay the burden of debt from credit cards. These young talents are employed by teams of companies like The New York Times, JPMorgan, Cockroach Labs, Spotify as well as other businesses which are growing their earnings by around $75,000 per year. It's they are also in a position to assist their local community through buying houses, as well as by assisting small-scale family enterprises and supporting their families.

Yet, long prior to when they join the workforce and start their transition into work we observe the transformations that takes place as they mature and develop into people who aim to achieve greater than the people they've previously had the chance to realize their dreams and gaining confidence that they can add value to the spaces they enter. Every day, they are immersed in their pursuits and strive to create change beyond the boundaries of Marcy and, eventually, their workplaces. Through interactions with their instructors and their interactions working with their coworkers, they believe that their talents, skills and capacities will allow those to take down the system that are the cause of inequity over the years Utilizing their knowledge and experience in the creation of strategies to the good of society as well as making changes in society.

SQSP: What is the role of technology to achieve the goals of is Marcy Lab? Marcy Lab program and its Partners, both as experts on subject matter experts as well as managing the program?

ROOur technologically-focused curriculum's success is dependent on the close partnership we have with our colleagues on the side of employers for providing a continuous feedback loop regarding our fellows skills and their readiness for professional work. The areas that need enhancement must be addressed by our instructors directly in order to make sure that our curriculum is constantly developing and improving to ensure they are able to meet demands of employers as well as do their job.

The convergence of curriculums for schools and student performance has led to increased contracts for employment being signed with businesses who appreciate the potential that these tight connections could result in greater or even equal rates of appointing employees. Highlights include:

In direct collaboration with established firms to reduce the requirement for degree programs to Software engineers. The same is true for The New York Times and . They have also enlisted our Fellows, as well as others talented individuals that aren't typical.

New Capstone program curriculum J.P. Morgan Chase Asset and Wealth Management and J.P. Morgan Chase Asset and Wealth Management that is the leader in using technology to backend the capstone program in order to satisfy the needs of their students and assist us to prepare our Fellows for the growing usage in data analysis.

SQSP What hopes do you feel about the future direction of Marcy Lab School?

ROWhat makes me be optimistic about the future of Marcy Lab and the potential of the field we're in is the change taking place in the realm of business, where companies have shifted away from the necessity of degrees in favor of hiring through qualifications. This creates an opportunity for companies such as Marcy Lab to even exist.

I've been to some of the biggest employers within the United States such as IBM and Barclays as well as firms like this that have a lot of fresh professionals, as in addition to high-level and mid-level managers who have graduated from the Marcy Lab School, much as that of Stanford University. Stanford University pipeline that connects firms in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. While they acquire knowledge and capabilities at these top corporations, I can imagine the students relocating to start their own companies and paying the debt by hiring teams that have the same experience that they did.

It is important to note that I consider Marcy Lab as a part of a larger fair-minded program which was designed specifically in order to help the many youngsters who have succeeded in the schools of students of color to find careers that could end poverty in just the span of several generations.
