When Pooja Bavishi took the choice to start her ice cream company, Malai, she had a clear, personal vision. "I launched Malai in order to honor my childhood tastes in as a first-generation Indian American in a popular and mainstream manner," she says.

"Everyone can relate to ice cream fond memory from their childhood, which is often associated with going to the local ice cream shop for a tasty treat, and having a glass of ice-cream with beloved people," Pooja says. The rumination of childhood is what has brought Malai to a stand at the market and at food markets around the city to the freezers of grocery stores, mobile carts that pop up all over New York City, and the bustling flagship shop located in Brooklyn which offers local and national delivery.
