Photographs in black and white - The CreativeMindClass Blog
We sought out Titika about her secret for creating her mysterious images in black and white.
"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer; I am an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. After completing my communication studies from Roskilde University, Denmark, I transferred to Norway to further my studies in visual art, first in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts then in Bergen in Bergen, where I concluded my visual art studies in the Bergen Academy of Art and Design which included an MA in textile Art. There is no formal training in photography. The knowledge I have about editing and photography comes from my ongoing education on my own.
Would you like to learn more about my personal style? Would I like to discuss style instead? I never think about style... I tell stories through an intimate and poetic perspective Each image is a result of my concentrate on mood, expression, the atmosphere. Developing how my images appear is an ongoing process. It is my goal to always refine and clarify the expression. Sometimes I re-edit old images in the event that I acquire new information that allows me to move closer to the image I had in mind.
The key to making the mysterious images I have created ...? In most of my images which I've made in the last four years - I've been exploring the complexity and sense of self with a special interest in the relationship between inner and outer realities. Many of my images however, not all comprise digitally from several pictures (all obviously taken by myself).
My method usually starts with an intrigue or interest in exploring a topic or complex of feelings. I photograph, take notes and read to gain more knowledge, and continue to shoot. Working with the images often inspires me to make an entirely new image from several other. I experiment, subjectively as well as intuitively with the subject matter to let my photographs take shape. It's difficult to have an exact idea of what I want to achieve within my head, but I do I then photograph the elements that create the picture."
