The year 2008 was when I made a team 2008 together alongside one of my close acquaintances of that time. Stu McLaren and I put our expertise together to create the members.
We had no idea we'd be taking off on an amazing and unprecedented trip. WordPress was growing rapidly. It was an exciting time. There was some confusion, but there was plenty of evidence suggesting that WordPress is able to beat Joomla and Drupal.
For a better understanding, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga made waves when they were fresh faces in the world of music. Many of our current members were in the very beginning of their schooling when we began our adventure.
In the world of online-based marketing, discussions about membership websites were popular. There were however, any options for creating an online website for membership by using WordPress. The majority of development firms were concentrated on themes. So, the premium-plugin industry wasn't even an option.
We thought this was an chance to move immediately. Mike Lopez was our Jedi programmers who had the ability to come up with whatever ideas we wanted him to develop. He designed the first version of Member on his own in less than three months.
Similar to my previous ventures in the field of software there was a need, and I came up with an ideal solution for the issue that we all face. It's no surprise that Member experienced some rapid growth. The initial year in which the bulk of our transactions were based on people's word. The sales grew substantially beyond that year. We were able to spend no money on marketing.
It's the possibility that entrepreneurs imagine.
When we began our journey when that we began, we received an initial inquiry regarding selling our company. The response was very flattering but they were also looking for established brands in which the founder was deciding to retire. The business was new and energetic, which was absolutely little sense.
In the final day, the initial inquiry offered a solid proof. They were "Built to market" as were also people interested.
After the initial inquiry I contacted a close friend whom I thought of as a reliable adviser. His entrepreneurial experience includes owning several different businesses. One of these is that is an investment company named Venture Capital. Also, he sold numerous firms in his career. So it's not surprising that he's an expert.
A friend of mine shared one important idea. He explained "the key to selling an enterprise is to determine who's buying it and make your company a perfect match."
It was a great idea that incorporated a lot of sense, but there were small problems. When you work with an associate, you're building an organization that only one of the partners will want to join. It's a joint venture the partners have worked out to create in collaboration. Another reason is there is no purchaser.
Over the course of time, Stu and I formed Mike as a minority partner. This was most likely in 2010.
The web design landscape was transformed dramatically during the second half of 2014. Stu decided to keep his passion for education, and concentrate on specifically training members to create effective website for membership. Mike along with me worked at the firm who designed software.
Within a matter of seconds I was able to assume the role of major shareholder alongside the member. It was terrifying , yet exhilarating at every turn.
My leadership team and I went to Colorado for a focus on planning.
It was clear it was time to commence calibrating. It was time to set aside the attention on what we've accomplished over time and be certain about what we are competent to do over the next few years. Personally, I was looking to get rid of the idea of creating what I had imagined some one might want to buy and instead think about what kind of company I'd like to own.
These past few months have taught me a lot of things. One of the most obvious is that being isolated causes business owners to fall. Being in business can be quite lonely at times. It is essential to have relationships and connections that aid in bringing peace and peace for your employees.
There is no way to tell when an acquaintance can be a genuine connection...
I had the pleasure of meeting Micah Mitchell at a conference. He was working with a person selling an app similar to Member. Some people could think that they are one of the top competitions. That's not something I had in mind. I just knew that this guy was awesome and I'd love to get acquainted with him.
Over the next two decades, Micah was leaving his old company and setting up the company Memberium. Many people might have thought that he was much more of an eminent threat. All I knew was that I loved his personality.
The proof was my running across him in the airport security line. We had an enjoyable discussion about what we'd done and what was going on in the respective companies. Afterwards, we discovered that the seats we'd previously been allocated were to be shared throughout the flight. Is this just a ploy? Perhaps, somebody thought of coming up with this whole scheme up. The whole thing was just a chance.
We also started thinking about the best April Fool's Day joke in which we would reveal that Micah had just bought Member. It was funny to consider that it might be called Memberium. It is possible to add 360 into the name to give it a more intriguing name. Some readers can understand.
The first time I got a seat at the front of my software competition (thanks Delta!) became a lasting friendship. The two of us often met to chat about business issues over lunch for many years to come. Our conversations came to an end as my family and me relocated back to Tennessee. The friendships we had were great while we were in Utah too. It was a struggle to give them up.
I love developing software. The thrill of having the idea realized is exhilarating. It's much more enjoyable working as an amazing team and the result is far superior to what you ever imagined it would be. An excellent example is the latest update of all the classes and additional content for members.
While it's fun to listen to the sound however, it's also a challenge. If you've hit the maximum of one yard and it's just a few yards from scoring, you could be on empty from all your efforts.
While we were finishing the development and planning for the debut of our latest product, I started to feel exhausted. I started to realise the best option would be to look for a genuine partner in the field of marketing. A partner that understood the marketplace and would help to take my member to the next stage. I've made multiple calls to my trusted friends from the business world. My wife has informed me that Micah could be one of the applicants. My wife informed me that I'd reach out to him the following day.
If I phoned Micah Micah randomly texted me an SMS message. It was almost like sitting in the seat of Micah during the flight. Sometimes it is easy to recognize when events occur for an intention.

The discussion led to the idea to sell Member to Micah's company MemberShipper which is responsible for Memberium. The product we built with Member was exactly what MemberShipper wanted include in their portfolio.
Through the years I've received many inquiries regarding selling the business. A majority of them didn't feel right until now. It was crucial to me to ensure that Member remains a reputable brand. Additionally, I wanted to make sure that the amazing staff will be properly looked after.
Each step of the way made it clear that this was the right option for the member, the team and all our amazing customers that have helped us over the years.
I am very grateful to the leaders of each party. They've worked hard to make this transition as easy as possible for me. It's inspiring to see the entire team work together.
A common query I'm receiving currently is "What's the next step to you? ".
While I believe I'd like to retire, what truly need is some alone time. I'm hoping to use the free time to relish the moments I'm entitled to spend with my loved ones.
What's the significance to you if you're an existing Member?
In the simplest of words, the team is expected to keep offering new ideas and the Member platform will continue to improve and refined. The process will not stop.
I'm determined to work with Micah and all the members of our team throughout the year. I'm in a role which could be described as my ideal job. Now, I'm an "Director of Strategic Partnerships" for both the brand names that belong to MemberShipper.
Expect to see me at numerous gatherings during the next couple of months. My aim is to provide maximum value over the next year. It's my goal to be able to see Member follow Micah's advice.
Who knows, I may remain around for longer than I imagined.
I've never felt more confident about the prospects for the member than I am now. The future is just beginning.
