Update: Apple Revises App Store Link-Out Rules per EU DMA. However, New Fees Still Expensive --

Apple changed its App Store's regulations to be more in line with the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) But the charges that Apple is imposing in the wake of these adjustments are still extremely high as per the article in The Verge.

The major changes are described in six short sections in the Apple News and Updates page, users are being encouraged to visit the fuller description of the latest changes on the developer's manual.

Some of the highlights are promotions of "offers to buy products from a place you prefer." developers able to "use an actionable link which is tapped, clicked, or scanned, to take users to where they'd like to go." as well as that "Updated the business terms used for apps that use an External Purchase Link Entitlement feature " are now being developed to correspond with changes made to these capabilities."

The changes will begin taking effect "this in the autumn" (no time frame for a more precise start date is set).

"Nearly Unlimited 20 Percent Fee for developers'

In the news article of The Verge, "Apple adds nearly endless 20 percent developer fees in the latest EU update," the updates appear to give developers more freedom when it comes to linking with purchase alternatives that are not available through the App Store. App Store.

Various other programs and mechanisms might lower the cost and provide support for third party apps, which would charge for certain auto-renewing subscriptions that qualify, or becoming a developer as part of Apple's Small Business Program. The ongoing charges of twelve months reset at reinstalls or updates are the reason they're "endless."

A recently published TechCrunch piece, "Apple revises DMA compatibility with link-outs in the App Store with more flexibility and the updated structure of fees," further clarifies some of the differences between the different terms offered by Apple and the fees associated with them, both existing as well as new.
