Virtual Reality Artist Collin Leix, talks about her evolution as an artist, beginning with oil painting to investigating the depths in VR art.

"Before I started my journey as a VR artist, began with oil painting and was primarily who was primarily focused on portraits. As time passed my interest changed, as I was more interested in understanding the theory behind making.

The evolution of the artist; starting with classical music to, and finally to creating the Metaverse

I'm a violinist, and I was shocked to learn of my fascination with music scores that are graphic; various methods of interpreting images as musical direction. Also, I discovered I suffer from synaesthesia, a condition in the brain that causes me to blend diverse senses. In my case, numbers, as well as colors. This experience encouraged me to explore the ways I could create pictures."

"In 2009 I began my Master's degree in Fine Arts at the University of Michigan, where students were taught to experiment using a range of methods. My initial assignment involved drawing and concluded with my thesis. It included a massive installation that was placed on the ceiling that featured animations projected on it. The first animations I worked with were simple stop-motion drawings made with paper and paint, and the environment as the subject. It was extremely challenging as a method that I decided to carry on to work on the technique.

After finishing my master's degree at the end of 2012, I enrolled in an area community college to further my knowledge of After Effects that I've used since then , taught myself. I jumped into art apps, Cinema4D, and have experimented with cel, however, I've been focusing primarily in After Effects. I made direct-to-client animations for several years, as well as ensuring that I did my own artistic experiments with animation, and after that, they were put on the web.

"I had a serious health problem and suffered from a bout of depression that was often an occasion when I laid on the ground with my dog. So this was my view. I set myself the challenge of making each week a new effort however small, even if it wasn't much to get me the level I really was.

In 2018, I was employed by animation studio Gunner which is located in Detroit The studio has been my home ever since!"

What do you think of your style of art?

"Realism remains a part of the picture inside my heart since the beginning of my career. In the past, my style has a bit more surrealism and a sense of fun, and I'm constantly studying how color communicates mood.

My style of fashion has changed over the years since joining Gunner. Gunner. The Gunner group is usually working together in a group in order to assist with different styles. This means that I'm able to test out some designs that aren't my personal style. There are many ways to utilize loose brushwork, outlines and reducing design elements are some instances of things I've experimented with which I then carried on doing. As an example, the work "Crocus" comprises a combination of painting texture over 3D shapes, using realism and simple forms, using VR sculpture, and traditional Photoshop paint."

"One reason that I like working with Studio A is because the limits which define me and "my style" have been blurred. For instance, take the clip "Interruption" for instance. The idea was to create an Instagram posting to Gunner as I began to investigate. I was looking to employ the surreal to illustrate what it's as experiencing the rhythm of performing music. I also wanted to show what might be visible through your mind's eyes as well as the feeling of being interrupted.

Even though I was the one that animated the character and most of the designwork My wonderful coworker Ian Sigmon pushed me a lot in design of the characters. I wouldn't have got to the bizarre arms or simple body shapes without Ian's help. We concluded that the woman's body can change into different shapes when she plays again."

"I have a memory of losing in high school art contest because my drawings weren't all that cohesive or all the same style. I was convinced that this was a curse , but it has turned out as a blessing for my current work."

What's the secret to creating your illustration?

"For myself, the idea to boil out of a gut-feel. It's always a little bit in the first few minutes of every new work - typically it's a color scheme I'd like test Sometimes it's a phrase, quotation, or a little story.

A characteristic of my work is that I'm constantly testing innovative mediums. Right now I'm interested in drawing and painting in Virtual Reality. The team is also creating the video below on Gunner which covers the entire spectrum of painterly cell in Photoshop, to 3D rendering, to creating sculptures with VR before projecting the image of the sculpture. This is a short clip from the movie, known as Sync and is the first preview. This is Gunner's debut film with a director who is an actress, and is about three strangers who travel in an aircraft and an unusual happens to them during the plane.

What tips would you offer for someone just starting out with VR art?

"When trying to make sense of any technological advancement I am interested in, I have always an image or story of what I'd like to achieve before implementing the technology. This is a hint that I would like to offer any person looking to improve their abilities create a style frame or sketch out a text you're planning on writing before folding in the new technology. There will be a rationale or "why". In other words, you're just cruising around tutorials, adopting different style and perspectives of different authors.

We created this piece for the event Blend at Gunner at the beginning of the year in 2019. The piece was designed by me and then sculpted a lot of components of the environment within Virtual Reality. I'd played around with the sculpting process some time back, but when I realized the right "why I was able to develop my creative abilities grew rapidly. This video is an overview of the scenes I designed."

"I'm extremely busy with the management of my Instagram account. Instagram as well as I've also created a class that will help you recreate your illustrations in 3D space using Tilt Brush. The course doesn't need the completion of a qualification in VR art, but you'll need an VR headset to be able to participate in the class. I'll guide students through the procedure. It is my sincere desire into this!"
