Why it is that the Online Coaching Industry is Broken (And the Ways to Fix it)

Aug 25, 2022

Believe it or not I've never had the desire to teach coaches how to coach. However, over the past seven years, I've become more involved in this business and I've become quite successful in my work. Naturally, coaches have been enthused to get my thoughts to a certain extent.

This is when I began taking a closer look to the happenings in this industry. As I looked into it I noticed those doing things I didn't think they should do because they weren't going to work. If you've worked in this coaching field for some years, you probably know the issues I'm talking about- the coaching industry is rampant with untrue advice, broken promises, and even some completely fraudulent activities.

And, even more troublingly There are people out there teaching things they have no passion for, or competency in.

In some ways, I'd even go so far as to say that the coaching profession is fundamentally broken .

But there is an upside. There is the possibility of becoming an authentically helpful and effective online coach. It's just a matter of understanding what you're getting yourself into and ensure that you're doing it for good reasons. Let me explain...

There's a "pyramid scheme" in online coaching

The ads are everywhere every day on sites like YouTube as well as Instagram Now. As soon as you hit certain milestones in the coaching industry or bump into a challenge, they start to pop up like little pesky insects on your social media feeds. "Are you a professional who's really struggling to get clients? The only thing you'll need to do is follow my guaranteed strategy !"

I used to be in the back and be frustrated by the aforementioned issues. However, now I've accepted them as part of the cost as part of an unregulated industry. Since the sector isn't regulated There isn't a consensus about how to succeed. This is the primary reason for this industry's brokenness as it becomes increasingly difficult for qualified, good people to succeed.

There's no evidence of this in any other industry. There's no one offering a course about how you can become a lawyer in thirty days. And how you can get to medical school without taking any pesky tests. Since that's ridiculous would it not? There's an accepted way to become a lawyer or teacher or doctor or a therapist . Or any number of regulated professions. It's not possible to take shortcuts. There aren't any ads promising: "Seven Easy Steps to Start Your First Patient On the Operating Table to be Brain Surgeons(tm)."

The coaching profession has a lot of promisesand prayers for the desperation of people. It's all about the best way to train coaches on thisor teach coaches this. Because the coaching industry's most important consumer will be... you guessed it... coaching. They are the ones who purchase how to succeed, and probably taking a significant part of the revenues in the coaching industry.

Don't get me wrong -- that's okay if you've got an interest in marketing and are adept at teaching the things coaches need. If this is what you're most passionate about, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with giving only to people in your particular area of experise.

The problem is most people aren't very good or enthusiastic about it. This isn't what they would like to impart to others -however, they believe that's all they're able to do.

So what happens? The coaches change their personalities simply to pursue the goal of success. Putting aside the moral debate of whether that's right or wrong, this still creates problems. Since the most important thing to consider if you want to succeed, in my opinion, is alignment.

Stay clear of teaching other coaches

When I say alignment, it means that it is important to determine what the area of coaching is aligned to the lessons you have acquired in your life. Every one of us is a student of a few important lessons through our experiences in our lives. They are lessons we learned and used to conquer the obstacles through our lives. These could be financial lessons as well as career or even relationship lessons.

These life lessons can be valuable for anyone who is interested which means that they'll pay to hear your perspective and the lessons you've gained from it. The significance of that for business purposes is that your life lessons could be an effective product.

Now, the question is: how do develop a successful business which incorporates your personal strengths, strengths and challenges and doesn't make you do things you do not want to be doing? Since you do not want to lose focus from these life lessons and instead be caught up in just teaching others how to be a successful coach.

Imagine it this way: When you teach from your personal experiences, that's something that people value. However, if you just coach others on how to succeed as a coach, that's your knowledge that people find useful.

If this is the case, then your "secret ingredient" isn't important. It means your life lessons don't matter. It means you as a person don't matter as your value is interchangeable. Your status has been reduced to that of a commodity. Because the only thing that does matter is people buying this information. The reason it's important for us to comprehend is that if you can't succeed with a recipe where you don't have any significance, you won't be happy or fulfilled or have any sense of joy doing your work because you're not involved in the process.

Start by recognizing the value you hold. Your life lessons have value. It's not something you've learned through a different program or coach Your own understanding and perception about the universe.

What is the reason to coach from a place of authenticity

If you believe that the "guaranteed, one-size-fits-all approach works for you, the foundation of it is still inauthenticity. That's among the main reasons a lot of people aren't keen to sell or don't want to do so. This is the reason why many of these strategies for selling make you feel sick. (Which is an academic term, by the way.) It's not because of the techniques themselves, but due to the fact that you're not in alignment with your real self. Or the core belief that you've earned your worth.

For example, let's say you get a sales pitch for a pitch to prospective customers. If you don't trust what you're pitching anyone, it's irrelevant the author of the script or if they made a million dollars using the script. What you say comes out of your mouth , because your body is telling another story. The prospect knows you're trying to sell something which you've never bought!

It is the reason authenticity is essential when marketing the work you perform. There is a way to find the alignment has been discussed and find the voice through the messages. If you're using exactly the same sales strategy, you'll be more successful as you're coming from a position of honesty.

It's not all about the words that come from our mouths. If I'm confident about my product because I've experienced the life-changing benefits of the product, therefore you can give me any sales script. My certainty is going to convince you and my support on behalf of you is bound to make you believe.

People buy energy from the way they usually purchase -- not the item. This is your confidence, not your sales tactics and marketing channels.

It's time to become the kind of coach online you'd like to be.

I know that for certain people, this could be a challenge. There's a chance that you'll encounter some fears, doubts, and fears. The main issue is, do you have an ambition to be a positive influence? Are you determined to achieve success by applying your life experiences? Do you want to help other people with an ideal attitude? If so, then you'll be more likely to succeed.

What ever you do, don't disrespect yourself by removing the key ingredient of the equation. Don't just try to make money, make a commitment to making the world a better place.
